The Moment
Jeremiah 1:9
Then the Lord reached out and touched my mouth and said, “Look, I have put my words in your mouth!”
Pause and read this verse again! Place yourself in this moment. Imagine that you are Jeremiah and God touched YOUR mouth.
What is happening within this verse?
Why did God and Jeremiah have this moment?
God was calling Jeremiah to do something big. The chosen nation of Israel was in trouble AGAIN and God had chosen Jeremiah as a prophet to rescue His people.
God and Jeremiah had had a bit of an argument as Jeremiah claimed he was too young.
When we argue with God, we never win! And neither did Jeremiah.
Jeremiah was afraid and God provided the comfort for his fears.
Then the Lord reached out and TOUCHED my mouth…
The moment…
This was a moment!
This was a moment between God and Jeremiah.
This was a moment that was gentle…
that was precious…
that was intimate!
God had chosen Jeremiah as a messenger for His story…and instrument!
God had chosen Jeremiah to be the vessel in which He spoke through!
Jeremiah argued and battled his inadequacies.
Jeremiah gave in.
Jeremiah gave in to God’s calling in his life.
Once the battle within Jeremiah ceased, there was a moment.
A moment of intimacy between the Maker and the made…
A moment between the Creator and the created…
A moment between the Fearsome and the fearful.
In this moment, God became a physical being with a hand that could touch, a hand that could reach, a hand that could hush.
The scripture says that God reached out and touched Jeremiah. He touched Jeremiah’s mouth in the gentleness of the moment allowing Jeremiah to be in direct connection with the God of this Universe.
In this moment, all other things in Jeremiah’s life faded. All his questions, all of his fears, all of his doubts disappeared in just this ONE MOMENT.
God took His forefinger and placed it gently on the mouth of Jeremiah like that of a mother who gently places her finger on the mouth of her child to capture his attention. That moment when this mother wants her child’s full and focused attention moving her child into a quiet hush.
Was God quieting Jeremiah?
Was God drawing Jeremiah to a quiet hush so he could experience the gentle power of the Almighty?
Was this moment THE MOMENT in Jeremiah’s life?
Was this THE MOMENT above all other moments for Jeremiah?
Did this moment become Jeremiah’s anchor…the anchor for his soul?
Was this THE MOMENT that when life became unhinged throwing Jeremiah into the trenches, the depths of despair, pushing Jeremiah to give up that he reached out and clung to?
Was this THE MOMENT that carried him back to safety?
Was this moment etched so deeply into Jeremiah’s heart allowing him to run to His father again and again?
This WAS Jeremiah’s moment with God. It was his intimate moment that belonged only to him. Describing this moment to anyone else resulted in the loss of words when he realized there were no words that could describe this moment between he and God. His words only got lost within the translation. This moment was indescribable.
Do you have a MOMENT?
Do you have a MOMENT that anchors your soul?
Do you have a MOMENT that you can hold onto when life crumbles? When all is taken from you yet no one can take away this moment?
Your MOMENT?
God’s MOMENT?
That intimate MOMENT solely between you and God?
I have a MOMENT!
